Within the sun-drenched fields of Kiwi Acres, a shadowy veil of unease shrouds the farmstead. Whispers float through the gentle breeze, tales of pilfered treasures and missing belongings. The residents cry out for justice as the Thieves Guild, residing deep within their hidden haystack sanctuary, deftly plunders from all.

Prepare to navigate a web of perilous traps, match wits with cunning adversaries, and unearth the truth behind the secretive guild. Will you expose their clandestine activities, return the pilfered possessions, and restore harmony to Kiwi Acres? Or will you succumb to the allure of thievery, and join their pursuits? Embark on this treacherous journey, where the line between justice and temptation blurs within the mysterious home of the Thieves Guild.

How can you use this?

Thieves in a Haystack is set in the Kiwi Acres campaign setting for Mausritter and works best when used in that context in hex #12 on the map. You can alternatively use this as a one-shot adventure in your own games or plug it into an existing campaign.

The adventure includes:

  • Convenient home printing options in two pamphlet formats: A5 or tri-fold
  • Items that connect with other adventures in Kiwi Acres
  • An interesting new NPC
  • An exciting location with creative traps
  • 8 unique new items, spells & conditions
  • Player & GM maps in colour and grayscale
  • Integration with the wider world of the Kiwi Acres setting

A note for the GM:

As Thieves in a Haystack takes place in the Kiwi Acres hexcrawl, it references some items, creatures and tables that are available as part of the Kiwi Acres package. If you are not using Kiwi Acres, the standard Mausritter tables should suffice. Creature details are also included in the freely available New Zealand Bestiary.

Played this with my son and his friend. The friend had never played any RPG before and had lots of fun. They both came up with clever ways to avoid thieves.

This is the perfect adventure to lead into the further Kiwi Acres hexflower so next time I play we’ll definitely pull that out and let me son decide which item to return.

Oh, awesome - I'm glad it worked so well! This is a great adventure for connecting to other places on the farm - letting them choose where to go next based on the items they found is a great idea.
