Deep within the enchanting Fernwood Forest, the kiwi twins have gone missing - they have not returned from the clearing. Their worried parents seek the aid of brave adventurers who must venture into the mysterious depths, braving perils, forging alliances, and returning the lost twins to their colony.

Amidst the silver ferns of Fernwood Forest, the players will encounter strong tuatara, dangerous possums, and the mischievous creatures known as patupaiarehe - the New Zealand equivalent of the mystical fae. They must navigate treacherous terrain while avoiding the humans hunting for possums in order to rescue the kiwi twins and restore harmony to the colony. Embark on an extraordinary journey and answer the call of Fernwood Forest, where the fate of the kiwis is in your hands.

How can you use this?

Search & Rescue is set in the Kiwi Acres campaign setting for Mausritter and works best when used in that context in hex #18 on the map. You can alternatively use this as a one-shot adventure in your own games or plug it into an existing campaign.

The adventure includes:

  • Convenient printing options in A4 and US letter sizes
  • Interaction with the magical patupaiarehe, including curses and deals
  • New NPCs to rescue
  • An intriguing location map
  • New items, spells & conditions
  • Player & GM maps in colour and grayscale
  • Integration with the wider world of the Kiwi Acres hexcrawl

A note for the GM:

As Search & Rescue takes place in the Kiwi Acres hexcrawl, it references some items, creatures and tables that are available as part of the Kiwi Acres package. If you are not using Kiwi Acres, the standard Mausritter tables should suffice. Creature details are included in the freely available New Zealand Bestiary.

Just played with my six year old. He (we) had a blast! The maze-like map was fun for him to trace around and look for different routes, he learned a bit about some New Zealand animals and needed to make a difficult moral decision on whether or not he should attack some friendly lizards in order to lift a curse from himself. Lots of fun and we plan on doing another Kiwi Adventure when we get the chance.

I'm glad you both enjoyed it! That's certainly a tough decision to make, especially for a six year old - I hope it turned out OK! I'd love to hear how the other adventures go for you when you play them.
