On the outskirts of Kiwi Acres lies a peaceful mushroom grove, home to some of the most beautiful fungi on the farm. However, something strange is happening there. The mushrooms and plants have come to life and are attacking any unsuspecting creature that enters. The animals are in a panic and need the help of brave adventurers to solve this mystery and save the grove.

As the players venture into the mushroom grove, they must watch out not only for the vicious fungi but also for Kaori the crazed kea, whose unpredictable behaviour may make the quest all the more difficult. They will discover a sinister plot brewing in the nearby cave, where power-hungry bats are conducting experiments that are causing chaos in grove. Can the players uncover the source of the mushroom's sudden aggression and put a stop to it before it's too late? The fate of the grove and its inhabitants is in their hands.

How can you use this?

Mushroom Mayhem is set in the Kiwi Acres campaign setting for Mausritter and works best when used in that context in hex #16 on the map. You can alternatively use this as a one-shot adventure in your own games or plug it into an existing campaign.

The adventure includes:

  • Convenient printing options in A4 and US letter sizes
  • Two distinct locations with separate maps
  • An unpredictable party companion
  • 11 unique new items
  • A mystery potion with a permanent effect
  • interesting new conditions
  • Player & GM maps for both locations
  • Integration with the wider world of the Kiwi Acres setting

A note for the GM:

As Mushroom Mayhem takes place in the Kiwi Acres hexcrawl, it references some items, creatures and tables that are available as part of the Kiwi Acres package. The Mushroom Grove and Dark Cave are in neighbouring hexes on the map. If you are not using Kiwi Acres, the standard Mausritter tables should suffice. Creature details are included in the freely available New Zealand Bestiary.

A classic-style adventure with two maps. The crazied mushrooms on the grove and the bat scientists on the cave are good sets of enemies. The kea companion sounds like a lot of fun to have during the adventure.

As a suggestion, you could connect the maps having the cave entrance inside the grove so it's easier for the players to navigate.

All in all a nice nature-oriented part of the Kiwi Acres 👍🏻

The kea is indeed a lot of fun - a nice unpredictable element for players to deal with.

Connecting the maps isn't a bad idea - they're in neighbouring hexes, so making a visible connection between them would make sense and be useful for players. I'll look into that - thanks!
