v1.1: Difficulty levels and improved balancing

This update to Roll Up! includes the recently published changes, along with defined difficulty levels for obstacles as well as some balancing improvements. These are all based on feedback and further playtesting.

Join the Roll Up! game jam to create and submit your Roll Up! games.

The features of this update include:

  • Specified difficulty levels, allowing obstacles to be set at Simple, Easy, Medium, Difficult, or Impossible, with corresponding difficulty targets. There is still the option to roll 2d6 to see which one to use, but this makes it easier to quickly and reasonably decide on the difficulty of an obstacle.
  • Much better and far more balanced rules for multiple players teaming up to overcome an obstacle or engage in combat together.
  • Clearer rules for using Bonuses that make them more narratively appropriate and more balanced all round.
  • Updated combat rules, allowing any stat to be used in fights.
  • A dedicated ‘Quick start’ page near the start of the guide.
  • Updated example of play to account for the new updates and illustrate all the mechanics.

All downloadable files and screenshots have been updated to reflect these improvements, so you can download the new versions today. A big thanks to my playtesters and Gilbals for the feedback!

The soft cover booklet should be available to order at cost price soon! I’m just waiting for the proof to arrive (it’s already on the way to me) and then I’ll post an update about that.
