Veneranda Isle: An Adventurer's Guidebook
A downloadable setting guide
Veneranda Isle is a setting guide for tabletop RPGs. It includes creatures and items with stats for Knave, Cairn, and Lilliputian that can very easily be adapted into any other tabletop roleplaying game or system.
Available in print from Lulu
Shrouded in mist and mystery, Veneranda Isle is a place where legends breathe and the landscape itself seems alive with secrets. Located far from bustling trade routes, the island is largely forgotten by the outside world, its rugged shores battered by treacherous waters and jagged cliffs. Travellers who dare to land on its shores speak of eerie ruins, ancient rites, and unnatural occurrences that defy explanation. Once home to thriving settlements and shadowed by a turbulent past, Veneranda Isle now lies abandoned, its only inhabitants the desperate, the curious, or the foolish...
Veneranda Isle is a setting for any tabletop roleplaying game that is laid out like a traveller's guidebook. It will work in any TTRPG system, especially, but not exclusively, those with an OSR play style. The creatures and items in the guidebook include stats for Knave 2e, Cairn, and Lilliputian, but those can easily be adapted in to any other similar system.
The book include separate stats for each of the three games listed. The rest of the setting guide is entirely system-agnostic, and does not include mechanics, making it playable in any system.

How you can use this
As an open setting, you can use Veneranda Isle in any way you like and let your players take the lead with exploration. Here are some ideas:
- Use the d10 rumours table to give them an initial motivation for travelling to the island - they could hear the rumours in a tavern on a different island.
- Use the d10 unexpected events table to create sudden and exciting new situations that they are forced into.
- Let them explore the island on their own, while you describe the locations with their listed adventures, so they can decide what they do.
- Use the d10 encounters table to create engaging situations that could escalate into new adventures.
- Set up a notice board on a nearby island with the different adventures listed as quests for adventurers to complete.
As long as your players are intrigued and enjoying themselves, you're on the right track.

Man, this has got to be one of my favorite set-ups for a setting/area guide. A pretty map with a single paragraph per area which does a great job at giving the feel and description of each unique feature of the island. Each area is also provided with ideas for adventure which is basically just examples on how to use the material. With a small bestiary and rumor and treasure lists, this small beautiful volume provides a robust location which does a lot of the heavy lifting of creating a region while allowing huge creative freedom to use it how one desires. Honestly, for me it strikes the perfect balance between ‘so vague as to be practically useless’ and ‘so detailed I have no room to move’.
Ah thanks for such a great review! I appreciate you taking the time to write up about it, and I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the setting so much!
This is really great. Great worldbuilding, Hugh.
I hope you won't mind if i use the locations for Pirate Borg.
Of course - please do! It’s quite fitting for Pirate Borg.
"Spreads" and "Print friendly" is bad joke and oxymoron :/
Request not spreads, but print friendly :/
Thank you
Could you explain a little? Do you mean you would prefer singles instead of spreads?
The print friendly options are named that because don’t have the heavy background images. I can add single pages if that would be helpful.
hello! Please, add singles if possible ☺️ that would be awesome
Done! I’ve added singles of each version. The “print-friendly” ones don’t have the background images, so you can print them at home without using loads of ink.
thank you so much 😊
