Mouse Classes is a collection of classes for players to select when creating a new character in Mausritter. They can roll on the table for a random class or select one that appeals to them.

Each class has a default boon that will always remain active. They also have custom items available and a unique set of skills that function just like spells. This allows players to specialise their characters in different skill sets while also providing the flexibility to change their specialisation whenever they like.

The way classes are implemented here sticks to the rules-light approach of Mausritter without adding any extra mechanics to the core rule set.

Classes

Players can select a class from the supplied table or roll d6 to pick one at random.

  • Barbarian: A fighter who uses strength to overcome opponents and is able to rally companions in battle.
  • Wizard: A wielder of magic who is able to specialise with a variety of different spells.
  • Druid: A magic user who wields spells aligned with the natural world and animal kingdom.
  • Bard: A performer who can boost morale and use music to create magical effects.
  • Paladin: A holy warrior who is devoted, strong in battle, and able to enhance companions’ skills.
  • Rogue: A crafty individual who uses their agility and cunning to outsmart opponents.

All classes come with a unique boon and starting items.

Skills

Skills are available as separate skill tables for each character class - you can download these for free. Players may only take or find skills from their own skill table. Wizards use the spells from the Mausritter rule book as their skill table.

All skills function the same way as spells - each one takes up one inventory slot, has an effect, usage dots, and a recharge requirement. In practice, this means that players can only carry a limited number of skills with them at any one time, and they will need to recharge them once the usage dots are filled up. This forces players to be intentional about the skills they choose to use and allows them to bank other skills so they can switch them out between adventures.

If you’re worried about inventory capacity with skills, the Bag of Holding is a neat solution.

Advancement

When characters advance to a new level, along with the normal mechanics from the rule book, players can select a new skill from their skill table. They can roll for it or select one from the table.

Additionally, many of the skills include a “[LEVEL]” parameter that takes the player’s current level. This makes them more powerful as players advance.

Items

Players start with the items relevant to their class and find additional items while exploring the world. Any regular items can still be used by any class, and they can be supplemented by the class-specific items in this package to allow players to find items that only their class can use. Some of the class items include bonuses and boons.

The ZIP file you can download with this package includes a separate item sheet for each class, with 7-9 items per class.
